The Clinical Medicine discipline of Shanghai Jiao Tong University boasts of 12 affiliated hospitals, 8 academicians of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 39 people selected by national-level talent program and 40 people chosen by national-level young talent program.
Covering all secondary clinical disciplines, we are blessed with strong advantages and distinctive features as evidenced by 67 national key clinical specialties, the first national major technology infrastructure for translational medicine and National Center for Children’s Health, as well as 2 clinical research centers for metabolic diseases and ophthalmic diseases. Our endocrinology, plastic surgery, gastroenterology, rheumatology and immunology among other specialties are in the lead throughout China. Over the past 10 years, we have been a forerunner when it comes to the number of projects undertaken for the National Natural Science Foundation of China with the number of key projects hitting new records. Over the past 5 years, we have won 15 national science and technology awards. The number of total citation of papers has been on the rise, putting us in the first place in China for 5 consecutive years.
We regard it as our mission to develop medical talent pursuing excellence and innovation. Our paper on Strengthening Coordination between Healthcare and Medical Education, the Development of Medical Talent Pursuing Excellence and Innovation in Universities received the first prize of National Teaching Achievements. Under the Zhiyuan Honors Program for Doctoral Students, we have rolled out the application and assessment mechanism for doctoral student enrollment. It contributed to improvement in the quality of students, more than 90% of whom now graduate from key institutes of higher education.
Thanks to the SJTUSM model, we are recognized as the most vibrant discipline with the fastest progress and great international influence. We are the first in China to be included in ESI top 1‰. In 2009 and 2012, we ranked the first in discipline evaluation, and got A+ in 2016 in China’s fourth-round discipline evaluation.
