On December 28, the International Student Campus Open Day was held at SJTUSM Pudong Campus. Organized by the International Affairs Office and the International Students’ Office, the event attracted 22 international students and parents from eight countries. Through a series of activities including presentations, campus tour, and visits to affiliated hospitals, the event offered participants a comprehensive insight into the School’s academic heritage and dynamic development. It provided an in-depth platform for international students aspiring to pursue careers in medicine to learn more about SJTUSM and aimed to attract outstanding global talent to apply for further study.

The event was hosted by Qian Cihang from the International Students’ Office. Professor Lu Zhaohui, Executive Director of the International Affairs Office, warmly welcomed the international students and their families. He highlighted SJTUSM’s long history and profound academic foundations, noting its long-standing commitment to internationalization and to cultivating outstanding medical professionals with a global vision. He expressed his hope that more and more international students with a passion for medicine would join SJTUSM for the shared mission of safeguarding human health.

During the presentation session, Li Zhangxiao from the International Students’ Office provided a detailed introduction to SJTUSM’s history, disciplinary development, faculty strength, and international education programs. His presentation gave the international students a clear understanding of the School’s comprehensive strengths, training models, and admission requirements.

Professor Wo Yan from the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, College of Basic Medical Sciences, shared her insights into medical talent cultivation. She introduced the educational philosophy of deeply integrating anatomical training with clinical applications, emphasizing a model built on distinctive course instruction, extended through student competitions, science outreach, and volunteer activities, and guided by renowned scholars in the field of basic medical sciences. This approach enables students to gain extensive professional knowledge through a balance of theoretical study and practical training.

A first-year graduate student from Nepal shared her personal experiences of studying and living at SJTUSM. Drawing on his own journey, he offered practical advice to prospective students on coursework, research practice, and cross-cultural exchange. Her sincere and engaging sharing was met with warm applause from the audience.

Following the presentations, international students and parents embarked on an immersive campus tour guided by staff members. The newly built Pudong Campus left a strong impression with its state-of-the-art library, modern teaching buildings, and comfortable living facilities. Many students stopped to inquire about teaching equipment and daily amenities, and staff members patiently addressed their questions in detail.

In the afternoon, the group visited Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, an affiliated hospital of SJTUSM, where they toured outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and children’s activity areas. Observing the medical staff’s rigorous and meticulous clinical work and experiencing the Center’s dedicated care for children’s health, the international students developed a deep respect for the medical profession, further strengthening their aspiration to pursue medical studies.

The Campus Open Day provided international students with a comprehensive and multi-dimensional understanding of SJTUSM. The successful event conveyed the School’s commitment and sincerity in cultivating international medical talent and laid a solid foundation for future international student recruitment.
