To further align with the“Healthy China”strategy, accelerate the development ofaworld-class medical school and disciplines with Chinese characteristics, andtocreate a stronger academic atmosphere,SJTUSM heldthe second event of Master Forum Series, themed“Leading Development & Envisioning the Future”on October15 at the lecture hall in Yide Building. WANG Chen, academician and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (Peking Union Medical College); LI Jinsong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and ZHAO Yimin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered their keynote speeches, sharing with teachers and students the latest ideas about medical discipline in the new era, imparting advanced concepts and cutting-edge technologies, and looking into the trends of medical development.

FAN Xianqun,Chancellor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a welcome speech, expressing heartfelt thanks for the arrival of the three academicians.“What makes a good university is the amount and quality of masters it owns, instead of the amount and quality of buildings that stand.” The Master Forum Serieson High Quality Discipline Development is designed to allow all teachers and students tohave more chances to learn from them, toshoulder the responsibilities of the times,toexplore the forefronts of the discipline,toreach new highs in sciences and technologies, andtosafeguard the lives and health of people.

Academician WANG Chen gave a keynote speech titled“Clinical Medicine and Population Medicine: Concept, System, and Action”, introducing the concept and development of population medicine, further clarifying the connotation and significance of the medical system, and advising the medical students not only to“bend down to save patients”, but to“take the lead to help sentient beings”.

Academician LI Jinsong gave a keynote speech titled“Establishment andApplication ofSemi-cloningTechnologyMediated bySperm-likeStemCells”, introducing the establishment of semi-cloning technology mediated by sperm-like stem cells and its applications in gene imprinting research, genetic screening, human disease simulation, and some other areas.

Academician ZHAO Yimin gave a keynote speech titled“The Culture of Disciplines: Its Formation and Inheritance”, introducing the founding and construction of the International Museum of Stomatology. Startingwith the goal of thethe Museum to act as a base for education on medical humanities and popular sciences, he depicted a picture of discipline culturedevelopment and inheritance.

After their speeches, the three academicians engaged in active interactions and communications with the teachers and students present, and answered the questions that they raised, all in a lively atmosphere on site.
