On September 1, the opening ceremony of the 2023 China Medical Women’s Congress and the 8th Chinese Medical Women Association (CMWA) Wuzhou Women Science & Technology Award was held in Beijing. A total of 25 outstanding medical women across the country won the “8th Wuzhou Women Science & Technology Award”. Among the winners was Professor Wang Hui, Dean of School of Public Health.
The CMWA Wuzhou Women Science & Technology Award is the first honorary lifetime science award for female medical workers approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and registered with the National Office for Science & Technology Awards. Candidates are selected every two years to reward female medical workers who have made outstanding contributions to the progress of medical science and technology. The award encourages more women to join the undertaking of medical science and promotes the continuous innovation and development of medical science and technology. The winners are distinguished representatives in the field of medical science and technology across the country. They have made great contributions to the development of China's medical and health undertakings.
Wang Hui, Level-2 Professor, Distinguished Professor of SJTU, Doctoral Advisor, Dean of School of Public Health of SJTU, Executive Director of Institute of Digital Medicine of SJTU, Chinese Director of Center for Single-Cell Omics of SJTUSM, President of Shanghai Huangpu District Federation of Overseas Chinese, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, winner of the National BaiQianWan Talents Program, winner of the Chinese Young Women in Science Award. She is an expert enjoying special allowances from the State Council, winner of Hundred Talents Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences, winner of The Award for the March 8 Red-Banner Holder, and winner of the May 1st Labor Medal. She was awarded Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leader and Shanghai Leading Talent. She is a member of the Expert Committee on Food Safety Committee of the State Council, Chairwoman of the Chinese Society of Toxicology, and Chairwoman of the Special Committee of Digital Health of Shanghai Association for Social Application of Big Data. She was awarded Elsevier Highly Cited Scholar and the first prize of the 9th “Overseas Chinese Contribution Award” of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. She is also a chief scientist of key projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Wang has long been engaged in basic and applied research on active health and chronic disease prevention and control, nutrition and food safety, health education and health communication. Based on active health index, she has created the health management digital system of full life cycle. The system has been promoted and applied in many places across the country. She has published more than 180 SCI papers in international journals such as Nature and JAMA. As the chief editor of nine monographs, she has applied for 57 patents with seven achievement transformations. She has formulated 25 national and industry standards and obtained four computer software copyright registrations and three video copyrights. She has three electronic series published in Chinese and English, and led the construction of the National Digital Literacy and Skills Training Base, Digital Nutrition Center of Shanghai Nutrition Innovation Platform, Shanghai Vector Biological Prevention and Control Training Base, Shanghai Student (Youth) Science and Technology Innovation Education Base.
In recent years, under the overall layout of SJTUSM, the School of Public Health has focused on major national public health needs and cutting-edge scientific issues. Centering on the integration of big health + medical prevention, an innovative development path with interdisciplinary characteristics combining medical engineering, medical principles, and medical literature was formed based on the principles of “macro + micro”, and “people+ foundation”. The school will continue to build a public health discipline cluster, a new paradigm for public health talent training, and a new highland for public health scientific research. Furthermore, the school will usher into a new phase of public health social services and promote the construction of the national public health system. All faculties and students at the School of Public Health of SJTU will contribute to the implementation of the Healthy China strategy.
