Professor Zhang Jian from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has recently received a congratulatory letter and a certificate from the Royal Society of Chemistry on being elected as the fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) due to his achievements in new target discovery and innovative medicine chemistry.

FRSC, founded in 1841, is a chemistry society with the longest history in the world and the largest organization in Europe for advancing the chemical sciences. It is also one of the world's most influential authoritative societies. Nearly 80 fellows of FRSC are Nobel Prize winners. Fellowship candidates of FRSC are nominated by experts and elected among scientists who have made outstanding achievements in advancing the progress of the chemical science.

Professor Zhang Jian holds the following positions or has won the following honors: Director of the Center of Medicinal Chemistry and Bioinformatics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, fellow of FRSC, member of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council of China, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National High-Level Personnel of Special Support Program, and young scholar in the Chang Jiang Scholars Program. Professor Zhang is mainly engaged in drug design and drug chemistry and chemical biology research. Specifically, Professor Zhang has made a series of breakthroughs in precise target identification and discovery of first-in-class drugs. Professor Zhang has published over 120 SCI-indexed articles in internationally renowned journals as the corresponding author, including Nat Chem Biol, Chem, and Chem Rev. The cumulative number of citations to his articles exceeds 10 thousand, with an h-index of 57. Professor Zhang has applied for over 16 foreign and domestic patients (including six transferred as the first inventor). He is currently the associated editor of three journals, including RSC Med Chem, the editorial board member of over 10 journals, and the perennial reviewer of over 100 SCI-indexed journals, including Science. Professor Zhang is also the internal reviewer of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Australia FWF, Singapore IAF-PP Grant, and tenure reviewer at several universities, including the University of Barcelona in Spain. He is the reviewer of several talent programs under the National Natural Science Foundation of China.Zhang has successively won the following titles and honors: Excellent Research Advisor of the American Chemical Society, First Prize of Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (1/4), Biomedical Innovation Award of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, Top 10 Prominent Science and Technology Figures in China in 2017, and Top 2% of Scientists on Stanford List.
