The Special Exhibition of "70 Memorable Moments in 70 Years" of SJTUSM and the New Book Series Launch Ceremony of SJTU Medicine was held successfully

The year of 2022 marks the 70th birthday of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM). To further promote SJTUSM's firm stand in keeping up the momentum and joining hands for a new chapter while maintaining the righteousness and innovation to usher into a new era and journey, and to enable more faculties, students, and medical staff to understand, to appreciate, and to hold dear to SJTUSM, the Special Exhibition of "70 Memorable Moments in 70 Years" of SJTUSM and the New Book Series Launch of SJTU Medicine were held in the main hall of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU for short) Library at Minhang campus.

Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee, Lin Zhongqin, President of SJTU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Ding Kuiling, Executive Vice President of SJTU, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gu Feng, Executive Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee, Jiang Fan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee, Secretary of the CPC SJTUSM Committee, Fan Xianqun, Vice President of SJTU, Chancellor of SJTUSM, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhang Ansheng and Xu Xuemin, Vice Presidents of SJTU, Zhou Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee and Secretary of the CPC SJTU Discipline Inspection Commission, Wang Weiming, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee and Vice President of SJTU, Zhu Xinyuan, Vice President of SJTU , Zhao Wenhua, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTUSM Committee, Wu Zhengyi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTUSM Committee and Vice Chancellor of SJTUSM, heads of the school headquarters and other SJTUSM departments involved, as well as undergraduate student representatives of Class of 2022 of SJTUSM  attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Zhao Wenhua, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTUSM Committee.

Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee, Lin Zhongqin, President of SJTU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Jiang Fan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee and Secretary of the CPC SJTUSM Committee, Fan Xianqun, Vice President of SJTU, Chancellor of SJTUSM, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering took the stage and pressed their fingerprints, jointly initiating the special exhibition held in the campus of SJTU.

Under the theme of "70 outstanding moments in 70 extraordinary years", this special exhibition selects 70 historical moments of the development of SJTUSM. By narrating the history with images based on chronological orders, the Exhibition hopes to light up the shared memories of SJTUSM’s faculty and students and inspire all faculties, students, and medical staff to look into the future by mirroring the past, to pursue long-term achievements by honing the mind, and to exert themselves to pass on and carry out their knowledge with vim and vigor.

Lin Zhongqin, President of SJTU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that the 70th Anniversary Celebration Conference of SJTUSM fully demonstrated the remarkable achievements made by SJTUSM in the past 70 years of reform and development, which interpreted the profound connotation of "drinking water without forgetting the source and honoring the school as a patriot", as well as the warmth and feelings of "serving the motherland and the people” delivered in SJTUSM value. He pointed out that the event aims to bring the development fruits of SJTU Medicine to the school headquarters, where more faculties and students can have a further comprehensive understanding and recognition of SJTU Medicine and work together to boost the high-quality development of SJTU Medicine. He emphasized that the cause of medical education shoulders the two major strategies of building a healthy China with strong educational power and that SJTU Medicine bears great potential in the new era. The special exhibition and the launch of the new book series form the good starting point of an all-inclusive display and an in-depth understanding of SJTU Medicine. In the future, all colleagues in the school headquarters and SJTUSM will strive to build a healthy and talent-strong China that is competent in education, science and technology through in-depth study, publicity and implementation of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. Furthermore, SJTU Medicine will make great contribution to fully building a Modern Socialist China and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Fan Xianqun, Vice President of SJTU, Chancellor of SJTUSM, and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering appreciated SJTU’s strong support to the SJTUSM and thanked all the contributors to the Special Exhibition and book series. He stressed that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of SJTUSM, which has long been making outstanding contributions to the development of world medicine and China's healthcare undertakings. The Special Exhibition of "70 Memorable Moments in 70 Years" of SJTUSM and the New Book Series Launch of SJTU Medicine, with the flourishing and spirited images and articles, will inspire us to forge ahead with courage and determination to win more glories. He called on SJTUSM’s faculty and students to work together under the guidance of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress to build a world-class medical school and first-class medical disciplines as soon as possible, to speed up the construction of a healthy China competent in education, science and technology, and talents, and to fully build a Modern Socialist China. In this way, greater contributions will be made to comprehensively promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through the Chinese path to modernization.

The SJTU Medicine publication series is published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, including 5 books. With more than a million words and over a thousand exquisite pictures, the book series aims to demonstrate the development history and outstanding achievements of the first-class medical school with “world-class reputation, Chinese characteristics, Shanghai style and SJTUSM features” to all walks of life from multiple angles and levels. The original intention of compiling the book series is to record these precious memories of the School’s history, to provide fresh and vivid historical materials for all faculties and students and medical staff in SJTUSM, and to create reference and inspiration for SJTUSM’s faculty and students to follow the first-class benchmark and to forge ahead with expanded horizons and enhanced capability.

Prof. Jiang Fanand Prof. Fan Xianqun represented SJTUSM to give the book as a gift to Ding Kuiling, Executive Vice President of SJTU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Gu Feng, Executive Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee.

In the acknowledgment part at the Ceremony, Prof. Jiang Fan presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Cheng Yuhei, a professor at the Institute of Arts and Humanities of SJTU. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of SJTUSM, Cheng Yuhei, as the chief editor, compiled the "Ode to SJTUSM” jointly with SJTUSM’s faculty and students, which condensed the 126-year School history and 70-year glorious development of SJTUSM in 605 words. It was officially launched at the 70th Anniversary Celebration Conference, which aroused strong emotional resonance among alumni, faculties, students, medical staff and people from all walks of life.

Standing at a new historical starting point, all SJTUSM’s faculty and students are well prepared for a new journey. They are consistent in holding on to the idea of “treating the whole country as a chess game” at the campus, School of Medicine, and affiliated hospitals. Relying on the multidisciplinary advantages of a comprehensive university to stand up for SJTU Medicine, to add glory to the reputation of SJTU Medicine, and to contribute the wisdom and solutions of SJTU Medicine to accelerate the construction of a healthy China and the Chinese path to modernizing medical education.
