Biography

• Dr. Zhou being the leader of the Department of General Thoracic Surgery which is the leading team sponsored by the government of Shanghai, he has well established himself with more than 25 different major surgical procedures in the area of pulmonary carcinoma, mediastinal tumor, esophageal and tracheal diseases in both surgical treatment and clinical research. In 1992, he accomplished the first homograft sternum transplantation in China in a patient with malignant plasma cell sternal tumor. In 1994, he did the first SVC bypass with Teflon vascular prosthesis in China in a patient with huge thymus tumor involving SVC. Besides clinical work, he was also actively involved in clinical investigation, with more than 60 publications and presentations. Being the major investigator in the clinical project Controlled widening of surgical indication in the treatment of pulmonary carcinoma, Dr. Zhou has acquired significant progress, among which, the combined treatment of small cell carcinoma acquired the 2nd Class Award of National Advancement in Science and Technology. In 1999, he acquired the 2nd Class Award of Advancement of Science and Technology in Shanghai.
