Biography

  • Zhenguo Liu, M.D. PhD., earned his master’s degree in 1993 and graduated in 1999 with doctor’s degree at Shanghai Second Medical University (SSMU). He completed his residency and fellowship at the Department of Neurology, Ruijin hospital, affiliated to SSMU, where he subsequently gained promotion through the position of attending physician, associate chief physician, chief physician, and finally served as Deputy Chair of the Department of Neurology, Ruijin hospital. From 2002 to 2004, Dr. Liu completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Kansas Medical Center. In 2004, Dr. Liu was awarded full professorship, and, since then, has served as Chair of the Department of Neurology, Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of medicine.

  • Dr. Liu is a member of multiple professional sociological and scientific organizations.

  • The “All in One” Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Clinic, under Dr. Liu’s direction, offers diagnostic and treatment services for patients with Parkinson’s disease and related disorders such as progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, tremor disorders, and primary essential tremor.

  • Dr. Liu’s directions of research have been concentrated on the standardization of diagnosis and treatment in Parkinson's disease and the development of symptomatic treatment of Levodopa-induced Dyskinesia (LID) with integrated modern and traditional Chinese medicine. In addition, Dr. Liu explores the synaptic and circuit mechanisms that drive the development of LID. Dr. Liu’s research has been supported by more than 30 grants from municipal and national foundations, including 1 project supported by the National Key R&D Program of China, and 6 projects supported by National Science Foundation of China. His research results have been published through more than 300 scientific research papers.
