Biography

  • Dr. Kang Sun is a Professor in the Center for Reproductive Medicine, Ren Ji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He serves as an associate editor for American Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Frontiers in Endocrinology and Frontiers in Physiology, as well as a council member of Chinese Society of Reproductive Biology. His research covers: the initiating mechanism underlying sterile inflammation in human gestational tissues in normal parturition and preterm birth; the role of placental gene expression in the regulation of fetal growth; the crosstalk between endocrine hormones and immune system in pregnancy; and the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome. Dr. Sun has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters including publications in Endocrine Reviews, BMC Medicine, Diabetes, Science Signaling, Clinical & Translational Medicine, Cell & Bioscience, Human Reproduction, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Endocrinology, Journal of Lipid Research and Journal of Immunology. He is the chief editor of the Chinese book “Basic and Clinical Placenta Endocrinology.”  The research team led by Dr. Sun has made a number of original findings in the study of the triggering mechanisms of human parturition, including the feedforward cortisol regenerating system and the feedforward loop between prostaglandins and 15-HETE in human fetal membranes. He is the recipient of National Science and Technology Award of China, Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award and Army Science and Technology Award.
