Research Interests
Mammalian spermatogenesis is a unique cell differentiation process including mitosis, meiosis and spermiogenesis. During the prophase I of meiosis, telomeres are implicated in the pairing of homologous chromosomes. Research of my lab focuses on understanding the structural basis and molecular mechanism of telomere associated protein complexes in regulating homolog pairing and synapsis. Spermatozoa possess specific morphology and structure to ensure the effective sperm-egg recognition and fusion. Defective spermiogenesis caused by genetic mutations leads to male infertility involving abnormal sperm structures. We are also interested in revealing the pathogenic mechanism of these mutations to provide theoretical guidance for clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with malformed spermatozoa.
