As the first university in China to set four-year system of nutrition undergraduate program, SJTUSM has more than 30 years of history of nutriology education. Nutriology is the key medicine discipline in Shanghai, the key discipline of public health in Shanghai, and the pilot program of application-oriented university approved by Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education. Nutriology department is equipped with first-class clinical nutrition faculty in China and promotes the development of China’s evaluation system of registered dietitians. The program also offers master and doctoral degrees, “2+2” joint training project with Cornell University for implementation, and dual bachelor’s degree program of Food Safety and Nutrition & Administrative Management co-built with School of International and Public Affairs.
The program is aimed at cultivating innovative and remarkable talents in the profession of nutrition with basic knowledge and skills about medicine, nutrition and food safety. Graduates will be familiar with nutritional diagnosis and diet nutrition guidance for diseases, with international vision and multiple-discipline background. Distinctive courses include anatomy, lemology foundation, clinical medicine outline, Traditional Chinese Medicine, preventive healthcare, nutriology foundation, public nutriology, group nutriology, clinical nutriology, foods nutriology, food safety, food technology, food analysis and inspection, nutrition consultation and education, diet design and management and so on.
Graduates have high comments from employers including nutritional department in hospitals, disease control center, food safety supervision and management authorities, companies or nutrition research institutions. Excellent graduates can obtain graduate degree directly or go abroad for study via recommendation without participating in examination.
