The International Peace Maternity & Child Health Hospital (IPMCH) of China Welfare Institute (CWI), which was founded in 1952 by Mme. Soong Ching Ling, one of the founders of new China, the Honorary President of the People’s Republic of China, the founder of CWI, now is an AAA grade hospital for gynaecology and obstetrics, maternal and children health care, integrating of medicine, health care, education and research. It is also the national “Baby-friendly Hospital”. In 2006, IPMCH became one of the affiliated hospitals of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Furthermore, IPMCH has insisted on the purpose of “being experimental and demonstrative, enhancing scientific research” and carried forward the guideline of “giving wholehearted service to women and children”, and it has been honored the“National Civilized Unit”, “National Labor’s Day Honorary Medal”, “National Advanced Group Award”,“National Benchmark Unit for Ideological and Political Work in the Health System”.

IPMCH now has 2 campuses, 480 beds approved in Xuhui district and 500 beds approved in Fengxian district, covering a total area of 120 Mu (151,000 m2). It has 1,349 staff members, among them 1,236 are health professionals, and 15.0% of the employees have doctoral degrees. The functional positions of the 2 campuses respectively are “Premium Medical Care” (Xuhui campus), and “Comprehensive Development of Medical Research and Education, High-quality Innovation and Translation” (Fengxian campus). The hospital is equipped with a comprehensive range of large-scale medical devices, emergency care, surgical, imaging, laboratory, genetic diagnostic, and experimental equipment all are from world-leading brands. Advanced Medical Equipment Includes: 3.0T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System (world-leading technology), X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner, Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) System, Hybrid Operating Room with DSA,Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Surgical System, High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) System and etc. These state-of-the-art facilities ensure precision diagnostics, minimally invasive treatments, and advanced patient care.

Key Specialty Departments include: Obstetrics, Prenatal Diagnosis Center, Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, Child Health, General Gynecology, Gynecologic Pelvic Floor Disorders, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Medicine Center, Cervical Diseases, Family Planning (Fertility Regulation), Breast Diseases, Anesthesiology, Clinical Nutrition, and Preventive Health Care. It has 5 national constructing projects for characteristic specialties of pregnant and prenatal care, neonatal health, female climacterium healthcare, Traditional Chinese Medicine for Women and Children,Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine coordination "flagship" department construction project (Gynecology). Its Obstetrics and gynecology, birth defects, and female tumors are 3 key clinical specialties in Shanghai. The Fertility Center has been admitted by the Ministry of Health and the hospital was authorized the national training institute for gynecologic laparoscope technology. It is the member of the "Belt and Road" gynecological endoscopic surgeon training unit of the National Health Commission. It is the national clinical application pilot unit for PGD and NIPT and it is also the National Twin Pregnancy-Fetoscopy Application Center. IPMCH was authorized the National Standardized Residency Training Hospital, National Training Institute for Midwife, National provincial-level talent training base for birth defects, the Shanghai Birth Defects Prevention and Healthcare Center and the Shanghai Prenatal Diagnosis Technology Quality Control Center.
