ZHAO Wenhua

Prof. Zhao Wenhua (male, Han nationality), CPC member, was born in December 1966 in Wuding, Yunnan Province. With a doctorate in pedagogy, he is a professor and doctoral supervisor in SJTU, and currently serves as the deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of SJTUSM.

He previously served as deputy director of the Institute of Higher Education of SJTU, deputy director of the Planning & Development Division of SJTU, deputy director of the Center for World-Class Universities at SJTU, director of the Reform & Development Research Office of SJTU, and director of the Office of CPC SJTU Committee.

His main research fields are higher education theory, higher education administration, science and technology policy and university strategic planning. He has published more than 60 articles in Education Research, Higher Education Research, China Higher Education, Educational Development Research and other journals. His works include On Higher Education System, Modern University System: Problems and Countermeasures, and Innovation Capacity Building of Colleges and Universities for Innovation-Oriented Countries. He has headed many projects including major strategic research projects of the Science & Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education, general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, sub-projects of major humanities and social sciences projects of the Ministry of Education, key projects of the national planning on educational science of the Ministry of Education, projects of humanities and social sciences planning fund of the Ministry of Education, and projects of Shanghai educational science planning. He has won the third prize of the 4th National Outstanding Achievements Award for Educational Science Research, the second prize of the Outstanding Achievements Award for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences) and the first prize of the Outstanding Achievements Award for Party History Research of the CPC Shanghai Education and Health Work Committee. He concurrently serves as executive council member of the Higher Education Committee and council member of the Higher Education Administration Committee of China Association of Higher Education.

He majored in education at the Education Department of Southwest Normal University from September 1984 to July 1988, and then finished his postgraduate and doctoral study in pedagogy in East China Normal University from September 1994 to July 1999. He has been serving at the Institute of Higher Education of SJTU as lecturer (August 1999 to December 2000), associate professor (December 2000 to August 2004) and professor (since August 2004).

He is in charge of ideological and political education for faculties, publicity, cultural and ideological progress, campus culture, party committee affairs at all levels of SJTUSM, Women’s Committee of SJTUSM, student affairs, and the Communist Youth League of SJTUSM. He coordinates Party building, Party school, and comprehensive reform at SJTUSM.

He is also responsible for liaison with China Hospital Development Research Institute, Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai General People's Hospital and Shanghai Chest Hospital.
