Professor Wang Hui and Dr. Cheong Iohong from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Public Health have been invited to join the teaching team of the WHO Academy, an entity under the World Health Organization (WHO), as core faculty members. They will participate in the "Global Training Course on Biobanking" led by Dr. Zisis Kozlakidis from the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO-IARC). This collaboration signifies the full recognition by international organizations of our school's international influence in the fields of public health research and education.

Collaborating with Top Experts to Empower Global Scientific Research Infrastructure

This training course focuses on biobanks, a core infrastructure for modern research. The standardization, ethical guidelines, and efficient management of biobanks are crucial for advancing precision medicine, innovative research, and chronic disease prevention and control. With the collaboration of Professor Wang Hui and Dr. Cheong Iohong, the course will integrate China's experience in this field with a global perspective, providing cutting-edge and practical knowledge and skills to health researchers from around the world. It aims to strengthen international cooperation and exchange, as well as build capacity in public health research.

What is the WHO Academy?——A "Flagship" Platform Revolutionizing Global Health Learning

The WHO Academy is a revolutionary learning institution launched by the WHO in 2021, positioned as a global lifelong learning center. Its establishment aims to address the "last mile" challenge between global health knowledge and its application, driving the translation of the latest scientific evidence into tangible actions. Its main functions and features include:

Digital-First Approach: Providing an advanced digital learning platform and mobile application supporting multiple languages (including Chinese), ensuring convenient access for global users, even in areas with limited internet connectivity.

Personalized Learning: Utilizing artificial intelligence technology to customize exclusive learning paths for different roles (such as frontline healthcare workers and laboratory personnel).

"Just-in-Time" Learning: Emphasizing the provision of critical knowledge at the time and place it is needed, which is particularly important in responding to public health emergencies.

Looking Ahead: Contributing Chinese Wisdom to Build a Global Community of Health for All

The participation of Professor Wang Hui and Dr. Cheong Iohong is not only an honor for our school but also a manifestation of Chinese public health experts' active integration into global health governance, contributing "Chinese wisdom" and "Shanghai experience." Through the WHO Academy platform, they will impart professional knowledge to benefit the global community, jointly promote global dialogue and standard-setting on ethical, legal, and social issues related to biobanking, and make effective contributions to building a global community of health for all.
