
On the morning of September 19, the unveiling ceremony of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Affiliated Pudong People’s Hospital (Preparatory) was held in the hospital’s lecture hall. Attending the ceremony were Chen Mu, First-Level Inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission; Zhang Difang, Deputy Governor of Pudong New District; and Fang Yong, Vice Chancellor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Also present were officials from the Pudong Health Commission, the Hospital Administration Office of SJTUSM, Chuansha New Town, and Pudong People’s Hospital. The ceremony was presided over by Bai Yun, Secretary of the Party Committee for Health Work of Pudong and Director of the Health Commission.
Since 2021, Pudong District and SJTUSM have been exploring cooperation and actively advancing the process of establishing Pudong People’s Hospital as an affiliated hospital. On September 11, 2025, Pudong District and SJTUSM signed an agreement to deepen district-university cooperation. The unveiling of the hospital today is a vivid practice of this joint effort, and will help Pudong People’s Hospital grow into a high-level regional medical center.

At the ceremony, Chen Mu delivered remarks. He emphasized that the Municipal Party Committee for Education and Health and the Municipal Education Commission attach great importance to the development of medical education, actively promote cooperation between universities and hospitals, and are committed to building a new model for medical talent training featuring integration of medicine and education with shared resources. He expressed hope that Pudong People’s Hospital will take this unveiling as a new starting point, adhere to the concepts of openness, cooperation, and mutual benefit, and carry out all-round and in-depth collaboration with SJTUSM in teaching, research, and healthcare. Together, they can explore innovative training mechanisms and set an example for the integrated development of medicine and education.

In her speech, Zhang Difang noted that Pudong is striving to build a leading area for socialist modernization and to create a high-quality life for residents. She called on Pudong People’s Hospital to use the unveiling as an opportunity to fully integrate into the discipline development system of SJTUSM. Zhang stated that Pudong will actively coordinate resources from all sides to develop the hospital into a high-level affiliated hospital integrating medical care, education, and research. She expressed hope to further explore cooperation with SJTUSM, jointly contributing to new chapters in Pudong’s development and opening, and sharing the fruits of building a leading district.

Fang Yong remarked that the unveiling marks not only a new stage of district-university cooperation, but also the beginning of a new chapter in collaborative innovation between medicine and education. SJTUSM is committed to deepening district-university joint development, shaping new paradigms of high-quality growth, strengthening collaboration between universities and hospitals, and creating new frameworks for integrated development. By enhancing synergy between medicine and education, it will cultivate outstanding innovative medical talent. Fang pledged that the School of Medicine will provide full support to Pudong People’s Hospital in development planning, discipline building, talent training, and scientific research, to help build a high-level university-affiliated hospital.

Together, Zhang Difang and Fang Yong unveiled the plaque for the “Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Affiliated Pudong People’s Hospital (Preparatory).”

Shao Xinhua, Director of the Hospital Administration Office of SJTUSM, read out the official approval document entitled “Reply on Agreeing to the Second Naming of Shanghai Pudong People’s Hospital as ‘Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Affiliated Pudong People’s Hospital (Preparatory)’.”

The establishment of Pudong People’s Hospital as a preparatory affiliated hospital of SJTUSM represents an important step for Pudong and the School of Medicine in deepening healthcare reform and expanding access to quality medical resources at the grassroots level. It carries great significance for strengthening district-university cooperation, promoting resource sharing, and leveraging complementary strengths. By amplifying the brand influence and driving effect of SJTUSM, both sides will advance collaboration in hospital management, medical services, discipline building, talent training, and research and education. This will continuously enhance the service capacity of Pudong People’s Hospital and provide better-quality and more convenient healthcare services to local residents.
