On May 8, after evaluating the laboratory conditions, the "International Joint Laboratory on Tropical Diseases Control in Greater Mekong Subregion" was officially inaugurated in Laos. Attendees at the unveiling ceremony included Xiaonong Zhou, Vice Dean of the School of Global Health, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Wenyu Zhao, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, Latsamy Siengsounthone, Former Director General of Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute, Somphou Sayasone, Deputy Director General of Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute, faculty representatives of the School of Global Health, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and faculty and doctoral student representatives of Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research and Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute.

By forming cross-disciplinary teams through the combined investment of principal investigators from all three parties, the laboratory is enhancing cooperation in talent cultivation, conducting collaborative research in tropical disease prevention and control, and improving the region's capabilities for combating tropical diseases in the Mekong River Basin.
