Biography

  • MEI Ju, Second class professor, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor.

  • Prof. Mei is the director of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department (China national key clinical specialty) of Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, School of medicine. He is the winner of the commemorative medal for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, enjoying the special allowance of China State Council, the winner of the Cardiovascular Surgeon Award (Golden Knife Award) of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the leader of outstanding disciplines in Shanghai, and the "Medical Craftsman" in Shanghai. He is also the vice chairman of the minimally invasive surgery committee of the National Cardiovascular Expert Committee, the chairman of the atrial fibrillation professional committee of the Cardiovascular Surgeons Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the national member of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and the vice chairman of the Shanghai Cardiovascular Surgery Professional Committee.

  • Prof. Mei developed Mei Mini-Maze Procedure (Complete thoracoscopic ablation of the left atrium via the left chest for treatment of lone atrial fibrillation) and Shanghai Meiju Method (Concomitant Maze IV Ablation Procedure Performed Entirely by Bipolar Clamp Through Right Lateral Minithoracotomy). He is one of the first experts to carry out transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), transcatheter mitral valve repair, minimally invasive left atrial appendage clamping and hybrid surgery of large vessel disease in China. He has published more than 300 papers in professional magazines, undertaken 26 scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and won one second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
