Prof. DENG Weiwu is a senior expert in respiratory disease, a doctoral supervisor and a tenured professor of Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. After his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine, Shanghai First Medical College in 1958, he worked in the Lung Department of Guangci Hospital (now known as Ruijin Hospital), Shanghai Second Medical College. He has been successively elected as the director of the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Thoracic Society, Chairman of the Pulmonary Society of the Shanghai Medical Association, Consultant of the Chest Physicians Society of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Consultant of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) of the World Health Organization, Member of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), Senior Member of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), Reviewer of the National Science and Technology Award, and Reviewer of the National Medical Products Administration. He also serves as deputy editor of Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, Chinese Journal of New Drugs and Clinical Remedies, Journal of Clinical Pulmonary Medicine, Chinese Edition of Chest and other journals. He has long been engaged in clinical management, education and scientific research of respiratory diseases and tuberculosis.
