Biography

  • Prof. Chai has been engaging in clinical and basic research of trauma and tissue reconstruction for years. To change the situation of lower rate of limb salvage, He pioneered a variety of new tissue flaps, and applied in clinical cases to achieve remarkably curative effects. Meanwhile, he put forward the novel concept of neurocutaneous perforator flap and illuminated the mechanism of promoting tissue repairation and vascularization. Further, Prof. Chai established series of key technological systems on bone and soft tissue reconstruction and limb salvage. More than 20,000 patients have been treated successfully and the limb salvage rate increased from 32.43% to 64.43%. The new method of limb salvage was rated as one of the "New techniques of World Reconstruction in Recent Years" by the World Reconstruction Microsurgery Congress in 2013. The technical achievements have been popularized and applied in more than 21 provinces in China, and more than 6,000 patients have achieved remarkably curative effects. The research results have won the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress, the first prize of Huaxia Medical Science and Technology, etc.
