Research Interests: mechanism of organ ischemia/reperfusion injury, primary liver cancer , post-LT immune tolerance, pathogenesis of pediatric inherited metabolic disorders

Biography

  • Professor Qiang Xia is president of Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicineis. He is a pioneer and leading expert in pediatric liver transplantation in China. He promoted the number of pediatric liver transplantation in China from almost blank to the first place in the world, with 5-year survival rate being increased from 59.3% to 91%. More than 2,900 pediatric liver transplants have been performed, accounting for 40% of the total in China. The annual number of liver transplants performed by a single center has ranked the first globally for 9 consecutive years with excellent survival rates. He is the chairman of the first Chinese Medical Doctor Association Pediatric Transplantation Special Committee and the leader of the first Chinese Medical Association Pediatric Transplantation Group. He is the only Mainland member of the International Liver Transplantation Society Pediatric Committee. He has won the second prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award.
