Biography

  • Dr. Hui CAO is the professor of surgery of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and currently holds the position of director of department of gastrointestinal surgery and chairman of department of surgery in Renji hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a committee of gastrointestinal surgery group, surgery branch, Chinese Medical Association, as a recognition of his clinical works.

  • Dr. Cao is also a professor of surgery who has extensive commitments to both medical undergraduate education and postgraduate trainings. He participated in editorial teams for the textbook of Surgery appointed by medical schools across China. There have been more than 30 graduate students receiving either doctorate or master degree under his supervision. Prof. Cao has won series of education awards tribute to his achievements in medical education, including multiple Shanghai Jiaotong University excellent teacher awards, Shanghai Excellent Academic Leader award in 2013, Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leader award in 2017 and etc. He ranked top 100 for “Best Resident Instructor” voted by trainees in the standard residential training program in 2015.

  • Dr. Cao has rich clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumor, especially gastric cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumor. In the meantime, he has been actively coordinating both clinical and laboratory researches in these fields. He is in charge for multiple grands in The National Natural Science Foundation of China. Furthermore, he coordinated or joined the editorial team for the various versions of expert consensus and guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumors in China. He was consequently elected the chairman of Chinese Society of Surgeons for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors.

  • Furthermore, Dr. Cao has been engaged in the international academic exchange in the fields of gastrointestinal tumors. He has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with experts from Japan, Korea, Europe and the United States.
