Research Interests

  • The mechanism of the thyroid diseases such as autoimmune thyroid disease and congenital hypothyroidism

  • Huaidong Song is a director and Professor in Department of Molecular Diagnostics & Endocrinology at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He is a winner of “New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project (China)”, “National Award for Youth in Science and Technology (China)”, “First Prize of Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education” (2005), “Second Prize of National Natural Science Award”(2004). He has been funded by more than 10 projects form the National Natural Science Foundation of China and National Key R&D Program of China. His major research interest is to study the pathogenesis of thyroid diseases. His group has discovered 8 novel genes which contributed to the susceptibility of Graves’ disease by Genome-wide association study (GWAS). His group identified that AITD are existed as different subtypes underlining specific molecular mechanisms which needed to be optimal treated. They further discovered the deficiency of genes involved in the late stages of thyroid development resulted in congenital hypothyroidism. Their work has been published more than 150 articles in Journals such as Nature genetics, Science, Nature Communications, PNAS, which have been cited more than 6500.
