Research Interests

• Dr. Zhou is the head of orbital division in the Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital. Her main research interest is on thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). TAO is the most common orbital disease, causing blindness and disability. Currently, it is recognized that autoimmunity triggers pathological injury of TAO. Her overall goal is to identify the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for the pathogenesis of TAO, focusing on the pathological immune cell population and their interaction with orbital resident cells, as well as the genetic mechanism for disease onset. She also dedicates to combine advanced engineering and digital techniques with ophthalmology to develop novel theranostic methods, including navigating systems, surgical robots, multifunctional ophthalmic repair materials, artificial intelligence etc.
