Research Interests

  • Our group studies cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis signals in relation to human cancers, particularly leukemia. By investigating the mechanism of gene expression regulation and cellular stress response, we attempt to identify novel differentiation or apoptosis inducers, biomarkers and molecular targets of cancer cells with a goal of targeted therapy and cellular therapy for cancer. Specially, our group has long-lasting enthusiasm in uncovering the mechanism underlying MLL leukemias and developing novel therapy strategies. Our current research topics include:

  1. the epigenetic mechanism of MLL leukemogenesis;

  2. the role of MLL in cellular stress response;

  3. the precision immunotherapy for MLL leukemia using CAR T-cell technologies;

  4. the development of universal cellular therapy technologies.

  • Our seminal contribution in the field of hematology includes, discovering an essential role of MLL in cell cycle regulation and DNA damage response, demonstrating the critical role of MLL-regulating histone H3K4 tri-methylation in DNA replication regulation, uncovering novel cellular and epigenetic mechanisms underlying MLL leukemogenesis, and successfully treating MLL leukemia with proteasome inhibitors. Our group has published several research papers in high-profile journals such as Nature, Cancer Cell and Leukemia, which have been highlighted in Cancer Cell, Molecular Cell and Faculty of 1000, etc.
