Research Interests

  • Professor Li has concentrated his clinical experience and research in both benign and malignant disorders of the chest, with special emphasis on lung and esophageal cancers. In particular, he focuses on state-to-the-art surgical techniques including Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) and the Da Vinci Robotic System and multimodality treatments of lung and esophageal cancers.

  • Professor Li leads multiple research programs as principal investigator and has been a sustained contributor to high-impact international journals. To date he has received funding 4 times from the National Natural Science Foundation, led 5 municipal programs, and published over 70 articles on leading surgical publications such as Annals of Surgery, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is an honorary fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a fellow of American Association of Thoracic Surgeons (AATS). He was awarded Outstanding Academic Leader of Shanghai, and the team he led won the  prize of Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award in 2020 and the prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Awards in 2019.
