Research Interests

• Marine invertebrates and their symbiotic microbes have been becoming an important source for natural products with potential pharmacological functionality. In our lab, we aim at the understanding of the chemical structure and biological function of metabolites produced by marine invertebrates and their symbiotic microbes. The second research topic is to unveil the chemical cues for coevolution and communication between invertebrate hosts and their symbiotic microbes. In addition, we use our knowledge of the underlying biosynthetic pathways of microbial natural products to manipulate them in detail and generate new-to-nature microbial metabolites.
