Biography

  • Professor Hongyang Wang, a female expert in oncology and molecular biology, is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries. She is also a Changjiang Distinguished Professor granted by Ministry of Education, a chief physician and a doctoral supervisor. Prof. Wang currently serves as the director of National Centre for Liver Cancer of China, and the director of International Cooperation Laboratory on Signal Transduction in Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, Shanghai, China. She was also selected as the president of China Women’s Association for Science and Technology, the vice president of Chinese Anti-cancer Association and the vice president of Shanghai Medical Association.

  • Prof. Wang has been engaged in basic and clinical research of hepatobiliary cancers, making great contributions to deciphering the mechanism underlying cancer transformation from inflammation, the regulation of tumor signal networks and the development of novel methods for liver cancer early diagnosis. Recently, her lab also made innovative discovery in the identification of new strategy for individualized  treatment of hepatobiliary cancers. She has already published more than 300 papers in renowned international journals and applied for 31 invention patents within the past 5 years, of which 14 have been granted, including 4 international authorizations. Prof. Wang has led the development of Glypican-3 diagnostic kit for hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis approved by China’s Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) for clinical practice, which was the first liver cancer diagnostic kit with complete independent property rights in China. As the first accomplisher, she has been granted with the first prize of Innovation Team of the first National Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of National Natural Science Award, the first prize of Shanghai Natural Science Award, and the first prize of Shanghai Medical Science Award etc. Due to her great achievements, she was awarded with Wu Jieping Medical Award in 2021 and National Innovation Medal in 2020. Prof. Wang was honored as National Women's Pacesetter, Top Ten Science and Technology Elites of Shanghai, and Outstanding Academic Leader of Shanghai etc. Besides, she was the winner of the AMOREPACIFIC Award for Outstanding Women in Sciences, Female Innovation Award and Wuzhou Female Doctor Award etc.
