Biography

Ms Hu Xiaoyu is a retired senior public health doctor (associated chief doctor) from Shanghai Women’s and Children Health Center. She was graduated from the School of Public Health Tongji Medical University (Wuhan, China) with the Bachelor Degree in Medicine in 1986, and from the School of Public Health, University of California, Los Angeles in 1994 with the Master Degree in Public Health. She has been working as a trainer, counselor, researcher and manager in family planning and reproductive health field for more than 30 years. She and her team have been taking the leading role in quality management for family planning technical services around the city. She has much experience and expertise in adolescent and youth health care, peri-marital health care, sexual health care, family planning and contraceptive counseling, especially in postnatal and post-abortion contraception and health care. She has been selected as a national consultant working for Ministry of Health and National Center for Women’s and Children Health. She also participated in several national projects sponsored by UNICEF, UNFPA and WHO. As a national consultant of UNFPA-China country program during the 6th and 7th collaborating cycles, she actively participated in program formulating, technical supports and training, and evaluations, including South-South Collaborating Projects in reproductive health area. She has been involved in several epidemiological studies and clinical trials, such as effects of prenatal contraceptive education on postnatal contraceptive patterns, influence of advanced provision of emergency contraception on postnatal contraceptive use and effectiveness, integration of premarital health care and pre-conceptional health care to promoting prevention of birth defects, etc.
