The program is China’s double first-class discipline and falls within the plan of training remarkable doctors by the Ministry of Education (MoE). In the MoE Ranking among Colleges and Universities in terms of Degree and Discipline Evaluation 2017, the program ranks A+. The program is designed to cultivate remarkable medical innovation talents. The qualified eight-year system graduates of clinical medicine are awarded the degree of M.D.

SJTUSM implements an eight-year schooling for students of this program. At the end of the 5^th school year, an examination will be taken to decide students’ future study. Those qualified can continue with their study of latter three years.
