Professor J. Michael Millis, Faculty Director of the University of Chicago Center in Beijing, Visits SJTUSM

On the morning of April 9, Professor of Surgery J. Michael Millis, Faculty Director of the University of Chicago Center in Beijing, Vice Chair for Global Surgery, visits SJTUSM and its affiliated Ruijin Hospital. Professor Zheng Junke, Vice Chancellor Zheng Junke, met with Professor Millis. Representatives from the Office of International Affairs at SJTUSM and Renji Hospital also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Vice Chancellor Zheng extended a warm welcome to Professor Millis and introduced SJTUSM in medical education, clinical research, and internationalization. Professor Millis highly praised the academic strength and global vision of SJTUSM, expressing the University of Chicago Center in Beijing’s interest in deepening collaboration with SJTUSM to jointly promote the development of medical education and clinical research.

During the discussions, Professor Millis had in in-depth exchanges with SJTUSM representatives on topics including short-term undergraduate clinical exchange programs, collaborative clinical research, and leadership training for young physicians. They reached a preliminary consensus on future cooperation. Both sides hope to use short-term exchange programs to provide students from both universities with international clinical practice opportunities, enhancing their professional skills and global perspectives; to foster deep collaboration between clinical research teams in cutting-edge medical fields, accelerating the translation and application of scientific findings; and to draw on the University of Chicago’s best practices to strengthen leadership development among young physicians at SJTU.

After the meeting, Professor Millis, accompanied by Xu Lin, Director of the International Affairs Office, toured the Ruijin Hospital Translational Medicine Building and inpatient wards, gaining an in-depth understanding of the School’s latest progress and innovations in translational medicine.

Professor Millis’s visit brought fresh momentum to the collaboration between the University of Chicago and SJTUSM. Both parties agreed to maintain close communication, deepen cooperation across multiple areas, and work together to contribute to the advancement of global medicine.
