A fusion of roller skating and running, the first of its kind in Asia, fired its starting pistol in Shanghai's Huangpu district on April 14. The 2024 Huangpu Marathon, which combines the International Roller-Skating Marathon Tour (Shanghai Station), the China Roller Skating Marathon Open (Shanghai Station), the Shanghai Enterprise Quarterly Marathon and the Huangpu Marathon Online Race, attracted nearly 5,000 participants.193 students from ShanghaiJiao Tong University School of Medicine participated in the volunteer medical service of this event.
Toprovide a moreprofessional voluntary service,student volunteers had a systematic training in the afternoon of April 12, including service process and emergencymanagement. From April 11 to April 13, nearly one hundred student volunteersregistered at theMarathon administrationoffice, participated in the preparation of the event, and cooperated with the organizer closely to complete the preparation and distribution of materials.
On April 14, 193 student volunteers assembled at 4:00 a.m. in front of the school gate onSouthChongqing Road and went to the Huangpu Marathon course in high spirits. Thanks to the full training before the race, the volunteers quickly took their positions and put themselves into the intense and orderly work. At the starting point, they distributed number bibs for the runners, guided the orderly storage of clothes and bags, and ensured the smooth start of the race for each runner; on both sides of the track and at the supply stations, the volunteersheldtheir positions in an orderly manner, providing runners with timely track guidance and supplies to ensure the smooth progress of the race; at the finish line, they maintained order, assisted the runners in receiving prizes and distributing the finishers' materials, and helped the race to a successful conclusion. The volunteers performed their duties diligently, braved the wind and rain, and completed all the work tasks with high quality.When sticking totheir posts, they also actively cheered for the participating athletes, which fully demonstrated the vigorous spirit of the young people at SJTUSM.

The students interpreted the volunteer spirit of "dedication, love, mutual help and progress" with their practicalactions, and enriched the international image of Shanghai.
