A Delegation from the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong visits SJTUSM

On the morning of April 9, a delegation led by the Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong, Mr. Ko Pat-sing, visitedShanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.Prof. Fan Xianqun, Chancellor of SJTUSM and Academician of CAE, along withVice Chancellor Fang Yong, welcomed the guests. Heads of relevant offices and departments at SJTUSMattended the meeting.

Prof. Fan Xianqun warmly welcomed Mr. Ko Pat-sing and his delegation. He expressed that Shanghai and Hong Kong share close cultural ties and economic integration, with a long history of cooperation, especially in the fields of medicine and health.SJTUSM looks forward to actively engaging in exchanges andcollaboration with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority in hospital management, medical services, technological innovation, and talent cultivation.SJTUSM aim to strengthen the sharing of experiences, platform connectivity, and talent interaction to jointly contribute to the development of China's health and wellness sector.

Mr. Ko Pat-sing stated that the Hong Kong Hospital Authority actively explores cooperation opportunities with professional groups and institutions, gradually deepening the exchange of professional medical talents with mainland cities to promote the coordinated development of medical services between Shanghai and Hong Kong. He hopes to discuss the establishment of a bilateral talent exchange mechanism withSJTUSM.

In the meeting,Xu Lin,director ofOffice of Hong Kong, Macao, and TaiwanAffairs at SJTUSM, gave a brief introduction to SJTUSM.Guan Huimin, the General Administrative Manager of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, presented the authority and its talent exchange program. All attendees had in-depth exchanges on the training systems for physicians in Shanghai and Hong Kong and reached a preliminary consensus on cooperation and exchange in specialized training, professionalization of hospital management, research-oriented physician training, and talent exchange.

ViceChancellor Fang Yong concluded that the Hong Kong Hospital Authority has rich experience in refined hospital management and health informatizationdevelopment, providing high-quality, humane medical services to all residents of Hong Kong. Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, with its 7 national-level medical centers and 13 affiliated hospitals, continually enhances its medical service capabilities.SJTUSM will actively promote talent exchange programs with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority to establish a long-term and stable cooperation mechanism.

After the meeting, Mr. Ko Pat-sing and his delegation visited the affiliated Renji Hospital. They were received by the President of Renji Hospital and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Xia Qiang, along with Vice President Wang Zheng. President Xia Qiang and Mr. Ko Pat-sing reviewed the situation in the fields of bilateral medical talent training and exchange, highly praising the achievements made. Mr. Ko Pat-sing commended the rapid development of Renji Hospital in recent years, especially its outstanding achievements in liver transplantation and anesthesia, and expressed his hope for continued exchanges with Renji Hospital and other mainland medical institutions. The delegation also toured the Liver Surgery Department and Clinical Research Center of Renji Hospital.

The Hong Kong Hospital Authority is a statutory body established in 1990. Since December 1991, the authority has been responsible for managing all public hospitals and related medical services in Hong Kong. Currently, the authority oversees 43 public hospitals and medical institutions, 49 specialty outpatient clinics, and 74 general outpatient clinics. As of March 31, 2023, the Hospital Authority provided over 30,000 hospital beds and employed more than 90,000 staff.
