2015 Forum on Advancements in Immunology Research convened successfully
The 2015 Forum on Advancements in Immunology Research (FAIR), co-hosted by Shanghai Institute of Immunology (SII), Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) and Institute for Immunology (IITU), Tsinghua University was held successfully on November 24th at SJTUSM. Leaders of SJTUSM, Guoqiang Chen, Shan Mou, Hong Chen, and Tianle Xu attended the opening ceremony. More than 200 students and researchers from SII, IITU and universities in the surrounding areas of Shanghai participated in the forum.
Dr. Bing Su, the Director of SII, presided the opening ceremony. This was followed by an opening speech by Dr. Guoqiang Chen, the Dean of SJTUSM. The keynote speakers for this year’s forum were Dr. Richard A. Flavell (Yale University) and Dr. Michael Karin (University of California San Diego). Dr. Flavell presented the importance of inflammasomes in intestinal microenvironment regulation and its impact on inflammatory bowel diseases while Dr. Karin talked about the key roles of immune regulation in tumor oncology and its potential in immunotherapy. A total of 12 immunologists from Beijing and Shanghai shared their latest results of research on innate immunology, infectious disease, inflammatory disease and adaptive immunology. 40 posters were displayed after the seminar, and 6 of them were selected for oral presentation.
In recent years, SII, as a special academic zone in SJTUSM, has highly valued collaborations with top research institutes from both local and abroad. IITU, founded in 2012 and soon became one of the top immunology institute in China, had maintained strong collaboration with SII and SJTUSM. Both SII and IITU co-founded the annual FAIR in 2014 with the aim of providing an open platform for researchers, especially the younger generation, to exchange views and achieve a common major progress in the field of immunology. FAIR 2015, which had been highly supported by SJTUSM, further strengthen the collaboration between the two institutes and increases the international competitiveness for both SII and IITU.
