American Society of Hematology Selects Dr. Bin Guo to Receive the Global Research Award

[Shanghai, Jul, 20]Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine is pleased to announce that Dr. Bin Guo has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to receive the 2022 ASH Global Research Award. Dr. Guo is one of 13 talented early-career investigators selected for this honor.

Through the ASH Global Research Award, ASH helps ease this difficult transition for researchers outside the United States and Canada by providing partial salary or other support during that critical period, allowing recipients to pursue research projects that will help them get to the next step in their careers.

The 13 researchers selected for this year represent 12 countries: Australia, Brazil, China, France, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, and Tanzania.

Dr. Guo will receive research support for his project on “Identification of novel regulators of human HSC maintenance by single cell RNA-sequencing”.

“The molecular mechanisms underlying human hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal are largely unknown. We recently established an unbiased system based on mitochondrial metabolic activity to identify functional regulators of the maintenance of human cord blood hematopoietic stem cells (Chen et al, Journal of Clinical Investigation, 2021). I very much appreciate ASH for supporting our continuous study on this project. This award is very helpful for young investigators who just established their independent laboratories.” said Dr. Guo.

“The ASH Global Research Award supports future leaders in hematology around the world and fosters scientific collaboration across borders,” said 2022 ASH President Jane N. Winter, MD, of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. “These deserving awardees receive support to conduct their research in their home countries and to contribute to the global hematology research workforce.”

Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) is located at Huangpu District of Shanghai. SJTUSM is one of the best medical schools in China, and it is famous for its strong clinical medical education and superior clinical teaching conditions. SJTUSM has made remarkable achievements in scientific research and has all along been a leader in the number of research programs received, the amount of funding granted, and the number of key projects undertaken among medical schools in China.

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) (www.hematology.org) is the world’s largest professional society of hematologists dedicated to furthering the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting the blood. For more than 60 years, the Society has led the development of hematology as a discipline by promoting research, patient care, education, training, and advocacy in hematology. ASH publishes Blood (www.bloodjournal.org), the most cited peer-reviewed publication in the field, and Blood Advances (www.bloodadvances.org), an online, peer-reviewed open-access journal.
