On January 14-15, 2023, the Songjiang Young Scholars Forum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine was successfully held in the form of video conference. The forum was jointly organized by Songjiang Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Encephalopathy Center of Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. The forum invited 19 outstanding young scholars from Harvard, Yale, Mayo, Baylor Medicine, Tsinghua University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Center of Excellence for Brain and Intelligence to share the latest scientific research results. At the opening ceremony, Gu Jieyan, Deputy head of Shanghai Songjiang District, Professor Lu Yong, Director of the Personnel Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Academician Duan Shumin, Dean of Songjiang Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, delivered speeches respectively. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Xu Tianle, Executive director of Songjiang Research Institute.

Gu Jieyan introduced the long history and vigorous development of Songjiang, and welcomed talents at home and abroad to focus on scientific and technological innovation, start a career and live and work in Songjiang, an important new city in Shanghai. Songjiang Research Institute is a scientific research institution jointly established by the Songjiang District government and the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University. The district government has high hopes for the future development and will constantly update and iterate new policies to support innovation and accelerate the transformation of basic research results into real productivity.

Director Lu Yong delivered a speech on behalf of the Medical School of Jiaotong University. He said that the school of Medicine of Jiaotong University is A unit jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal Government, and its overall strength ranks the first phalanx of medical colleges in the country, and it has obtained 3 A+ in the fifth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education. There are 21 academicians and 207 national talents. The 12 affiliated hospitals have 4 national medical centers, 3 national clinical medical research centers and 74 national key clinical specialties. In terms of talent training, the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University has always adhered to the "education and introduction", actively attracted and cultivated outstanding high-level talents at home and abroad, provided fertile soil for the growth of young people, actively promoted the cross-cooperation between basic medicine and clinical medicine, and accelerated the construction of cross-compound talents in new medical sciences.

Professor Xu Tianle, executive director of Songjiang Research Institute, on behalf of the Institute, made a report on the "Brain Science Research Plan of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Introduction of Songjiang Research Institute". He said that the establishment of the Songjiang Research Institute will help lead the brain science research within the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University, and promote the renewal and iteration of the brain plan of the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University: based on the three brains around the "child development brain, mental emotional brain, and aging degenerative brain", and expand to the 2.0 upgraded version of the cross-innovation research of "brain, medicine, industry and medicine". Songjiang Research Institute, as a young institution, will actively explore innovation in the system and mechanism. In the next five years, it will recruit 50 research groups and 230 permanent personnel to form a superior discipline group of brain science, complete the defunding work of Songjiang Hospital, and make it become the affiliated hospital of Jiaotong University. It will not only strive to be a third-class hospital, but also become an important force in China's brain plan. In the next 10 years, we will create hardware and software conditions to promote the innovation and development of talents, form a culture of training and education of first-class innovative talents, and lay the foundation for building a world-class science and innovation center. In the next 15 years, Songjiang Hospital will be built into the vanguard of the Medical school system of Jiaotong University, to become the dream team of brain science in China, to lead China's brain science, to become a world-class science and technology innovation center, and to contribute to the construction of an innovative country. Songjiang Research Institute has two unique advantages, that is, the combination of "new" and "old" advantages. "New" is a new system, the institute has the deep integration of the innovation chain industry chain of the cooperation between the district and the school, and has a better top-level design and the overall planning to ensure the development of talents; "Old" is the old successful experience, the institute not only has the excellent historical heritage of the Medical School of Jiaotong University and the Basic Medical School of Jiaotong University, but also the leadership of Academician Duan Shumin, will draw on its successful experience in talent training in Zhejiang University and Fudan University, and continue to reform and innovate to help outstanding young people grow up!

Academician Duan Shumin pointed out that the integration of Songjiang Research Institute and Songjiang Hospital, and the future basic research must be closely combined with clinical research to promote the development of transformation and application. With the theme of "Brain Function and Brain diseases", the forum aims to build an exchange platform for outstanding young scholars in the field of brain science at home and abroad. At the forum, 19 young scholars shared insightful academic achievements. Professor Xu Tianle, Qiu Zilong, Tong Xiaoping and Zhang Siyu served as forum hosts, attracting about 100 online participants at the same time. The participating experts and scholars actively discussed the research direction of personal interest, opened up academic ideas, dug deep scientific research prospects, and fully experienced the "academic feast" in the field of brain science.

At the closing ceremony, Academician Duan Shumin and Professor Xu Tianle expressed their sincere thanks to the speakers.
