Bio

Dr. Zhu received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2018. She was awarded the “Young Eastern Scholar” (2020-2023). She was selected as a mentee by the “International Sleep Research Training Program” of the World Sleep Society (cohort 2021) and was mentored by Dr. Simon Kyle from the University of Oxford. Dr. Zhu is passionate about serving. She is a committee member of the Shanghai Nursing Association-Diabetes Care, an editorial board member of the International Journal of Nursing Studies (top journal in Nursing) and the Chinese General Practice. Dr. Zhu also organized the “World Sleep Day” activity in 2021 and 2022. Her activity in 2021 received the “Distinguished Activity Award”.   The long-term goal of Dr. Zhu’s research is to develop interventions to improve sleep in an effort to decrease the cardiometabolic risks associated with sleep disturbances and maximize the well-being of adults. Her research has been focused on sleep health among various populations, including people with diabetes, pregnant women, and patients with chronic pain. She has expertise in using novel data collection methods such as Ecological Momentary Assessment and wearable devices including actigraphy and continuous glucose monitor. She has experience in instrument validation and systematic review. Dr. Zhu is also interested in symptom management (e.g., pain and fatigue). During the past five years, Dr. Zhu has received national, municipal, and intramural funding, with a total amount of over 1.5 million CNY. She has published over 30 research papers as the first or corresponding author in peer-reviewed journals, including Sleep Medicine Reviews, Journal of Advanced Nursing, and Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.
