September 28, 2025

On September 7, Dr. Zhu Bingqian of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Nursing accepted the "Outstanding Activity Award" for the 2025 World Sleep Day on behalf of her team at the World Sleep Congress. Bestowed by the World Sleep Society, this honor recognizes World Sleep Day events that demonstrate exceptional organization, creativity, and societal impact.

First launched by the World Sleep Society in 2008, World Sleep Day is an annual global campaign. It seeks to draw attention to sleep-related areas, including medicine, education, and public outreach on sleep health. In 2025, over 600 representatives from more than 70 countries hosted events for the initiative. Of the 240+ activities considered in the award selection, 8 projects stood out and claimed the "Outstanding Activity Award".

Leading up to the award, Dr. Zhu Bingqian partnered with Li Yan from the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to develop the 2025 World Sleep Day series. The effort received support from the Hong Kong University Grant Council Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance Fund. The project team included undergraduate and graduate students specializing in nursing and clinical medicine.

Centered on the theme "Healthy Living Starts with Quality Sleep", the series featured four lectures and workshops designed for healthcare professionals in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Topics included insomnia management, psychological therapies for sleep disorders, the role of Traditional Chinese Medicine in sleep care, and practical meditation techniques for better sleep. Two sessions were held in Shanghai, with the remaining two hosted in Hong Kong.

This award serves as a testament to the team’s expertise and ongoing commitment to sleep health. Moving forward, the team plans to keep advancing public education on sleep wellness, develop more innovative initiatives, and continue working to protect and promote healthy sleep habits for all.
