Pool Efforts and Strive to Be First Getting off to a Flying Start

The plan for a year lies in spring, and the spirit can be seen from the beginning! Around the Spring Festival of the Year of the Rabbit, under the leadership of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) School of Medicine, leaders of Nursing School are leading its whole faculty and staff to muster up strength with concerted efforts, preparing for the beginning of the year, continuously hitting new heights for the high-quality development and getting off to a flying start.

A new round of teaching team was successfully formed. On January 10th, SJTU school of nursing arranged a new round of competition for teaching chiefs. The candidates made comprehensive reports on self-introduction, team building, curriculum construction, faculty training and construction goals. The teaching chiefs for humanistic nursing, clinical nursing and fundamental nursing teams were finalized. They are: Professor Zhu Daqiao, Associate Professor Zhang Ying, and Associate Professor Wang Caifeng. The “2023-2025 Shanghai Jiao tong University School of Nursing Teaching Team Construction Plan”was formulated based on the existing situation of the School of Nursing, results of two rounds of teacher symposiums and the opinions from teaching chiefs as well as experts. Curriculum construction will be carried out in accordance with the newly set-up teaching construction goals. With the beginning of the new semester, the teaching preparation of each course has been preliminarily completed.

Professor Zhang Yaqing won the “First Prize of Social Science Group” in the first Shanghai Exhibition of Teaching Designs for Curriculum Thoughts and Politics with her course of “Nursing Management”. “Nursing Management” aims to cultivate “excellent nursing talents with soul” based on intersection and application of management and nursing. It has enriched the teaching resources for curriculum thoughts and politics. The online-offline hybrid teaching mode has been demonstrated and extended to other Chinese colleges and universities. It has  been well received by teachers and students. This course has been identified among “the First Batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses” and “the First Batch of Planning Courses of the China Medical MOOC Alliance”, and awarded “the Demonstration Course of Curriculum Thoughts and Politics for Nursing Courses of Ministry of Education” and “Excellent Hybrid Course Demonstration for Shanghai Colleges and Universities”.

Professor Zhang Yaqing

The online-offline hybrid course "Adult Nursing II" led by Professor Zhang Yaqing and Lecturer Zhou Qi was selected as the first-class undergraduate course of Shanghai universities in 2022. “Adult Nursing II” is a compulsory core course for nursing undergraduates, with the goal of cultivating nursing talents with both ability and political integrity. It integrates and optimizes course contents, develops MOOC series for nursing, and continuously promotes the optimization and improvement of teaching resources. By establishing and implementing the mixed teaching mode of "MOOC+flipped classroom+PBL+scenario simulation+clinical practice", it cultivates students' critical thinking and innovation. By promoting the construction of curriculum thoughts and politics for the nursing discipline, it helps students set up firm professional goals to heal the wounded and save human beings. The course has been demonstrated and promoted in colleges and universities in 7 provinces or cities across China, and has received unanimous praise. It has successively won awards including Shanghai Key Course Construction, Municipal Excellent Course in Shanghai Universities, and First-Class Undergraduate Course in Shanghai Jiao tong University.

Lecturer Zhou Qi

The study entitled “Data-driven early prediction and intervention for prenatal depression in pregnant women with adverse childhood experiences” led by Dr. Ningyuan Guo received funding from the 2023 Venus Project (Yangfan Special Project). Dr. Ningyuan Guo, lecturer and member of the clinical nursing teaching team, obtained her PhD at Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. Her research area focuses on psycho-behavioral problems and digital health. Since joining the School of Nursing, she has received research grants from the Disciplinary Talent Youth Project of the School of Nursing, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Clinical Research Youth Project of the Health Industry of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission. In the past five years, she has published 12 SCI papers with more than 100 citations by peers. She has been actively engaging in many international academic conferences for sharing her research work.

Dr. Ningyuan Guo

Spring is when lives and hopes are booming. As the new year sees the implementing of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, a flying start will breed the success of the whole year. With the sense of urgency and responsibility, the school of nursing will strive for the first-class and usher in a new spring for nursing.
