Biography

Prof. Ji is the chief physician and supervisor of postgraduates of the Department of Orthodontics, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; College of Stomatology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Prof. Ji graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine with her bachelor’s degree and joined the Department of Orthodontics at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital in 2002. She obtained her Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in 2012. From July 2012 to November 2014, she went to the University of British Columbia in Canada for research, learned neurobiological techniques, and carried out reverent project cooperation. Prof. Ji has long been engaged in the treatment of various malocclusion and is proficient in many kinds of orthodontic techniques including the invisible orthodontic treatment.

The research interests of Prof. Ji include the effects of circadian rhythm on the development of tooth germs and studies on dental age assessment. The study of our team found for the first time that after deprivation of the circadian rhythm of pregnant mice, the expression of melatonin receptors MT1 and MT2 and amelogenin in the tooth germs of neonatal mice decreased, the ameloblasts degenerated, and the mineralization of enamel matrix decreased. Our further studies revealed that the circadian rhythm may regulate enamel development through the melatonin-melatonin receptor-JNKs pathway. What’s more, Prof. Ji presided as the subject leader over a number of subjects supported by the National Nature Science Foundation of China, the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai, and so on. Over the past few years, Prof. Ji has published 23 articles in peer-reviewed journals as the first author or corresponding author, 20 of which are published in journals collected by SCI.
