On September 21, 2022, the professional institution for higher education evaluation Shanghai Ranking officially released the "2022 Ranking of the Best Disciplines in China". A total of 25 universities were ranked in stomatology. Stomatology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University has once again maintained its dominance, ranking second in China.
The ranking list includes 96 first-level disciplines, covering all universities with academic postgraduate degree programs in that first-level disciplines. The top 50% of those universities enter in the list for publication. Our Stomatology Discipline is again ranked second in China this year with an overall score of 1309 points, proudly landing in the first tier of ranking (top 2).
In 2021, the Stomatology Discipline of Shanghai Jiao Tong University achieved significant results in teaching achievements, science and technology awards, scientific researches and personnel training. The discipline won the first prize of the First National Excellent Textbooks (higher education category). It was selected as one of the first-batch pilot projects of Ministry of Education for virtual teaching and research office, the site of characteristic specialty in higher education. One faculty member was awarded the special prize of Baosteel Outstanding Teachers. We have made new breakthroughs in scientific research, adding one Second Prize of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology as well as one First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award; we have been granted one key project of NSFC. We have presided over NSFC Innovative Research Group, key international cooperation and Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, etc. We have published a number of high-impact papers in international famous journals with 48.6% of SCI papers in Q1 journals (JCR division). 5 authors have been selected as highly cited scholars.
The indicator system of Shanghai Ranking China's Best Disciplines Ranking includes five indicator categories (talent cultivation, research projects, achievements and awards, academic papers, academic talents), under which there are 17 indicators with more than 50 observed variables in total. The data for ranking comes from third-party data sources such as Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, NSFC, and literature databases at home and abroad.
As one of the earliest stomatology departments in China, College of Stomatology in Shanghai Jiao Tong University is among the Double First-Class Initiative and the first batch of National Key Disciplines. This year marks its 90th anniversary. It also performs as the National Center of Stomatology and the development organization of National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases. Looking ahead, the Stomatology Discipline of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will take advantage of the second round of "Double First-Class" discipline construction, take moral education as the foundation, put quality improvement at the core, grasp the opportunity, ride on the momentum, continue to improve the core competitiveness and overall strength of the discipline. With concerted effort, in-depth thinking and pooling resources, we will take the construction and development of the Stomatology Discipline to a new height.
