Symposium at the occasion of the opening of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine

Center for Single-Cell Omics (CSCOmics)

On November 3, 2019, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine’s new Center for Single-Cell Omics was formally opened by Dr. Guoqiang Chen, Chancellor of the School of Medicine, who appointed Dr. Jan Vijg as the Center’s first Director. The opening ceremony was accompanied by speeches of Dr. Chen and Dr. Gordon Tomaselli, the Dean of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where Dr. Vijg is also a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Genetics. Speeches were also given by prominent functionaries of the Shanghai government.

The Center for Single-Cell Omics organized an international symposium on “Single-Cell Omics in Aging and Disease”. Speakers included the very top level scientists in the single cell and aging fields, including Drs. Xiaoliang Sunney Xie (Peking University, Beijing), Renato Zenobi (ETH Zurich), Long Cai (Caltech, Pasadena), Michael Rosenfeld (UC, San Diego), Guanghui Liu (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Yousin Suh (Columbia University, New York). The conference was a great success and demonstrated how single-cell technology has already found its way in biological and clinical applications towards a better understanding of the aging-disease relationship.
