Biography

Dr. Yan Li is a tenured full professor and the Chair of the Department of Social Medicine and Health Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Prior to that, Dr. Li was an associate professor in the Department of Population Health Science and Policy at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). Dr. Li received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue University in 2014 and has since then devoted his research in the intersection of systems engineering and public health. By the end of 2023, he has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles, many of which appeared in leading academic journals such as American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Health Affairs, and IISE Transactions. Working with a multidisciplinary team of experts in engineering, public health, statistics, and clinical medicine, Dr. Li has developed or co-developed a broad range of innovative simulation tools that can be used to simulate disease progression, evaluate the cost-effectiveness of prevention and treatment interventions, and improve public health practices and decision-making. His innovative and impactful research has been supported by multiple funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health,World Health Organization, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, European Commission, and the New York State Department of Health. Dr. Li received one of the Systems Science Scholars Awards from AcademyHealth in 2017 and was elected a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine in 2019.
