Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine

In order to practice the high-quality development concept of "Healthy China" advocated by the Party and the country, and respond to the call of the country to accelerate the development of rehabilitation medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and China Pacific Insurance Group signed an agreement in October 2022 to jointly build the "Jiaotong-Taibao Yuanshen Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine", which was officially unveiled in November of the same year. In June 2023, Professor Shan Chunlei, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Rehabilitation Medicine and rehabilitation expert, Shanghai's leading talent, was appointed as the first director of the institute.The Institute aims to become an open, shared, and internationally leading research platform for rehabilitation medicine, promoting basic and applied research, medical and rehabilitation integration innovation, and industrial development in the field of rehabilitation medicine. It will use technological innovation to improve the physical and mental health and quality of life of people with functional disorders, cultivate interdisciplinary talents, and promote the development of rehabilitation medicine and the "Healthy China" strategy. The Institute will focus on clinical difficulties in rehabilitation, combining the advantages of the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University to carry out interdisciplinary research, integrating rehabilitation, clinical, brain science, intelligent engineering and other fields of technology, and conducting in-depth research on the rehabilitation mechanisms and treatment of major diseases such as brain neurology, cardiopulmonary metabolism, spinal musculoskeletal, and tumors. It strives to achieve original results in the fields of neuromodulation, brain-computer interface, rehabilitation robotics, big data and artificial intelligence, and metaverse rehabilitation, and establish a rehabilitation medicine data resource center to provide patients with accurate rehabilitation programs using advanced technology.
