Clinical Research Center

Institute of Clinical Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, located on the Huangpu campus, was officially established on October 26, 2025, building upon the former Clinical Research Center (founded in 2017). Focused on clinical research, the institute aims to create a world-class, comprehensive platform for innovation in clinical research methodologies, establish a multidisciplinary system driven by clinical needs, promote high-level clinical research, facilitate the development and application of cutting-edge achievements, and support the self-reliance and self-strengthening of national medical science and technology.

The institute integrates clinical resources from 13 affiliated hospitals to build a large-scale national population cohort and biobank platform, comprehensively enhancing the research capacity and service capability of clinical medicine. It provides support for disease diagnosis, drug development, and translational research, driving high-quality development of clinical research in China.

To date, the institute has established clinical research sub-centers in 10 affiliated hospitals and one in nursing school, forming the largest clinical research collaboration network in the country. It audited more than 300 clinical research projects in 35 hospitals in Shanghai under a three-year innovation plan sponsored by Shanghai Hospital Development Center. It also supports many important national clinical research projects host by medicine school. These efforts have improved the efficiency and quality of multi-center trials, with related results published in top journals such as NEJM and JAMA. The institute focuses on building the Shanghai Clinical Research Professional Technical Service Platform, integrating platforms such as artificial intelligence, independent imaging evaluation, intelligent trial design, and multi-omics analysis, to achieve full digitalization of the clinical research workflow, thereby enhancing the origination capacity of clinical research in Shanghai.
