Renji Hospital
Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, founded in 1844, was the first established hospital practicing Western medicine in Shanghai after the city had officially become a treaty port for international trade. More recently, Renji Hospital has emerged as a comprehensive medical center with a full spectrum of disciplines, integrating high quality clinical care, medical education and research. With superb clinical resources and top-tier research platforms, the hospital is comprised of 54 clinical and medical technology-related units, encompassing 3 National Key Disciplines and 13 National Key Clinical Specialties. Moreover, it is home to a National Key Laboratory, a Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, a Key Laboratory of the National Health Commission, as well as 28 provincial or ministerial-level key laboratories and research institutes. In recent years, Renji Hospital is consistently ranked among the top 3 medical institutions nationwide in the Nature Index. For 8 consecutive years, the hospital has received an annual research funding exceeding 100 million RMB for 12 consecutive years. Up to present, Renji Hospital has hosted nearly 50 national-level talents, including Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering, Chief Scientists of 973 Program, and recipients of various state-level talent programs. In 2024, the number of newly selected national-level talents at Renji Hospital has been ranked first among all medical institutions in Shanghai.
