College of Basic Medical Sciences

The former College of Basic Medical Sciences was the Basic Medical Department of Shanghai Second Medical University established in August 1955, then changed to the College of Basic Medical Sciences. In 2005, the college reformed to Shanghai Jiao Tong University College of Basic Medical Sciences through the powerful combination of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Second Medical University. It provides the foundation for medical teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation for Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

The college has 2 national “First-class” disciplines in Basic medical sciences and Pharmacy, 1 national key discipline in Pathology and pathophysiology, 4 key construction disciplines of “211 Project” by Ministry of Education in Medical molecular cell biology, Medical immunology, Pathology and pathophysiology, Genetic development and reproductive biology.
