Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine International Student Open Day Successfully Held | |||

On December 28th, the International Student Open Day of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (the School) was successfully held at the Pudong Campus. Organized by the International Students Office under the International Affairs Office, this activity attracted the participation of 20 international students and their parents from 8 countries. Through a series of sessions including guest sharing, campus tours and hospital visits, the activity provided these students with a comprehensive understanding of the academic heritage and dynamic development of the School. It successfully established a platform for international students who aspire to study medical sciences to gain an in-depth perspective of the School, with the aim of attracting more outstanding international talents.

The activity was hosted by Mr. Qian Cihang from the International Students Office. The Executive Deputy Director of the International Affairs Office, Dr. Lu Zhaohui, delivered the opening speech. He extended a warm welcome to the international students and their families who had traveled from afar. He noted that the School boasts a long history and profound heritage. It consistently upholds an internationalized educational philosophy, and is dedicated to cultivating outstanding medical talents with a global vision. He expressed his hope that more international students with medical aspirations would join the School to embark together on the noble journey of safeguarding human health.

In the sharing session, Dr. Li Zhangxiao from the International Students Office, gave a detailed introduction to the School’s glorious history, discipline development, faculty strength and international education programs, which enabled the international students to gain a clear picture of the School’s academic excellence, training model and admission requirements.

Professor Wo Yan from the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, shared key insights into medical training from her teaching experience. She introduced the training philosophy centered on the deep integration of anatomical training and clinical application. She emphasized that this philosophy was rooted in distinctive course instruction and extended through student clubs, academic competitions, science outreach and volunteer programs. Guided by renowned scholars in basic medical sciences, this philosophy enables students to acquire extensive professional knowledge through both theoretical learning and practical experience.

Aksara Regmi, a Nepalese international student in her first year of the master’s program, shared her experiences of studying and living at the School. She provided practical advice to international students in areas such as course learning, scientific research practice, and cross-cultural communication. Her sincere sharing won warm applause.

Afterwards, guided by staff members, the international students and their parents embarked on an immersive campus tour. Upon entering the brand-new Pudong campus, they were impressed by the state-of-the-art library, modern teaching buildings, and comfortable accommodation. Many students paused to inquire details regarding teaching equipment and living facilities. The staff patiently answered each of their questions.

In the afternoon, the visiting group proceeded to the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, an affiliated hospital of the School. They toured areas such as the outpatient clinic, wards, and children’s activity rooms. Witnessing the rigorous and meticulous medical work of the healthcare staff as well as the center’s commitment to children’s health, the international students felt a profound reverence for the medical profession and fostered a stronger desire to pursue medical studies.

The International Student Open Day provided the international students with a comprehensive and multi-dimensional understanding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. This activity conveyed the School’s genuine commitment to cultivating global medical talents and laid a solid foundation for its future international student recruitment efforts.
