Clinical Medicine (English-taught, Duration: 6 years)


2. Online Application Period

December 8, 2025 to April 30, 2026 (Beijing Time)


3. Eligibility

3.1 Non-Chinese citizens holding foreign passports; high school diploma and above; in good physical and mental health.

3.2 According to the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China and the relevant regulations issued by the Ministry of Education (Document No. 12, 2020), an applicant who was born in a foreign country and acquired foreign citizenship at birth, and whose Chinese-citizen parent(s) had obtained foreign permanent residency prior to the applicant’s birth, shall not be considered a Chinese national. To apply as an international student, such an applicant must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate on or before April 30, 2022, and must provide evidence of actual residence outside Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan for at least two years within the period from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2026. Residence of nine months or more in a year may be counted as one full year, verified by entry and exit stamps.

For applicants who emigrated from China and subsequently acquired foreign citizenship, they must have obtained foreign nationality on or before April 30, 2022, and have completed the formalities for renouncing Chinese citizenship. In addition, they must provide evidence of actual residence outside Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan for at least two years within the period from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2026. Residence of nine months or more in a year may be counted as one full year, verified by entry and exit stamps.

3.3 Excellent academic performance is required. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants whose native language is English or who have completed their high school education with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from submitting English proficiency test scores upon the university’s review and approval.

3.4 China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) score report for undergraduate admissions for international students. The required test subjects are Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Applicants may visit the official CSCA website (www.csca.cn) for specific test dates and content. A valid CSCA score report must be submitted by the online application deadline.


4. Online Application Method

Applicants must log in to the “Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine International Student Admission Application System” (http://applyiso.shsmu.edu.cn) within the application period, accurately complete the application form, and upload color scans of the original application documents. A non-refundable application fee of RMB 800 must be paid. Applications will be considered invalid if the fee is not paid.


5. Application Documents

5.1. Passport: Copy of the passport information page with at least 6 months of validity remaining. Once admitted, the passport information must remain unchanged until the completion of registration upon enrollment.

5.2. High School Graduation Certificate and Academic Records:

5.2.1 High school diploma. Applicants in their final year of high school may first provide a certificate of expected graduation issued by their high school.

5.2.2 High school transcripts covering all courses taken. Applicants in their final year of high school must provide transcripts for all high school courses completed up to the time of application.

5.2.3 All documents in this section must be submitted as originals or notarized copies.

5.3. High School Profile: The profile should include an overview of the school, admission requirements, enrollment statistics, curriculum structure, grading system, and university placement records, among other details.

5.4. Proof of English Proficiency (for non-native English speakers): Provide at least one of the following: IELTS ≥ 6.0 (no band below 5.0); TOEFL ≥ 90 (no section below 15); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) ≥ 170; Duolingo English Test ≥ 110. Applicants submitting IB, A-LEVEL, or other standardized English test scores may be exempt. Applicants who completed high school with English as the medium of instruction must provide official proof and may apply for exemption.

5.5. China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) Score Report. The required test subjects are Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Applicants may visit the official CSCA website (www.csca.cn) for specific test dates and content. A valid CSCA score report must be submitted by the online application deadline.

5.6. Personal Statement in English (signed by the applicant).

5.7. Two Letters of Recommendation: At least one of these letters must be provided by a current or former subject teacher from the applicant’s high school. Each letter must bear the signature of the recommender.

5.8. Financial Guarantee: A bank deposit certificate with a balance of at least RMB 100,000 or equivalent in foreign currency.

5.9. Foreigner Physical Examination Form: A valid health report issued within the past 6 months by a public hospital, completed and stamped in standardized format (see attachment).

5.10. Certificate of No Criminal Record (issued by authorities in the applicant’s primary place of residence in the past four years).

5.11. Supplementary Documents (e.g., awards, admission letters from other universities).

5.12. Application Fee Receipt (RMB 800). Submit proof of payment (payment methods and bank account details available at www.shsmu.edu.cn/iso/info/1022/1106.htm). The fee is non-refundable; unpaid applications are invalid.

5.13. Applicant’s Birth Certificate.

5.14. Proof of Nationality or Household Registration for Both Parents of the Applicant, such as passports, national ID cards, or household registration books.

5.15. For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and subsequently acquired foreign nationality, the following documents must be submitted:

5.15.1 Proof of acquisition of foreign nationality;
5.15.2 Proof of cancellation of original Chinese household registration and renunciation of Chinese citizenship for a full four years as of April 30, 2026;
5.15.3 All visas, residence permits, and entry/exit records for travel to China from the applicant’s first passport onward. Note: The applicant must have a record of actual residence outside China for at least two years between
May 1, 2022, and April 30, 2026; actual residence of nine months or more in any one-year period may be counted as one full year, verified by entry and exit stamps.

5.16. For applicants born outside China with one or both parents holding Chinese citizenship, who acquired foreign nationality at birth, the following documents must be submitted:

5.16.1 Proof that the applicant acquired foreign nationality at birth;
5.16.2 If the Chinese-citizen parent(s) held foreign permanent residency at the time of the applicant’s birth, proof of such permanent residency held by the parent(s) prior to the applicant’s birth must be provided. If the Chinese-citizen parent(s) did not hold foreign permanent residency at the time of the applicant’s birth, proof of the applicant’s renunciation of Chinese citizenship for a full four years as of April 30, 2026, must be provided;
5.16.3 All visas, residence permits, and entry/exit records for travel to China from the applicant’s first passport onward. Note: The applicant must have a record of actual residence outside China for at least two years between May 1, 2022, and April 30, 2026; actual residence of nine months or more in any one-year period may be counted as one full year, verified by entry and exit stamps.

5.17. Applicants Under 18 Years Old as of September 1, 2026: Submit a Guardian Guarantee Form (see attachment). The guardian must be an adult residing in mainland China with financial means.


Notes:
• All application documents not in Chinese or English must be translated into Chinese or English and notarized. The notarized translations must be submitted together with the original documents.

• Applicants are responsible for ensuring the authenticity, accuracy, and completeness of all submitted materials and information. Any falsification will result in disqualification from the application, admission, or enrollment process.

• After successful submission, applicants must regularly check the application system for updates and their email for requests to modify or supplement materials.

• If adjustments are made to the admissions policies by relevant authorities, the School of Medicine will accordingly revise its relevant provisions and announce the updates promptly.


6. Interview

Based on the submitted application materials, a shortlist of candidates for the interview will be determined. Applicants may check their interview eligibility via the status portal in the admission application system. Interview details will be notified by the School of Medicine.


7. Admission

7.1 Admission decisions are based on comprehensive evaluation of application materials and interview performance. Pre-admission results will be available in the application system.

7.2 Pre-admitted applicants must confirm acceptance and prepay tuition within two weeks of notification; otherwise, the offer will be withdrawn.

7.3 Admission Notices will be issued starting July 2026.

7.4 Original documents will be verified during registration; the School of Medicine reserves the right to revoke admission if discrepancies are found.


8. Start Date

Early September 2026 (specific date will be indicated in the Admission Notice).


9. Fees

9.1 Application Fee: RMB 800 (non-refundable).

9.2 Tuition: RMB 75,000 per academic year.

9.3 Accommodation: RMB 40 per day per bed (double room).

9.4 Comprehensive Medical Insurance: RMB 800 per year.

9.5 Textbook, medical, transportation, and meal expenses are to be covered individually.


10. Scholarships

Shanghai Government Scholarship: The scholarship will be competitively awarded based on a comprehensive evaluation of academic performance after admission.


11. Accommodation

The School of Medicine provides on-campus dormitories. Facilities vary by room type and building. All dormitories are equipped with air conditioning (heating and cooling), basic furniture, free internet access, and basic bedding.

Due to limited availability, applicants must apply to the International Students Office of the School of Medicine for dormitory reservation within the specified period. Those who fail to secure an on-campus reservation must arrange off-campus accommodation independently.
