In the early summer breeze, youthful enthusiasm came alive on the water alongside the rhythmic beat of drums. To further experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture and promote intercultural exchange among young people, international students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine actively participated in the “Experience China” — The 16th Shanghai International Student Dragon Boat Race and the 4th Yangtze River Delta International Student Dragon Boat Invitational Race, showcasing their vitality, teamwork, and positive spirit.
On June 6, 2026, the “Experience China” — The 16th Shanghai International Student Dragon Boat Race and the 4th Yangtze River Delta International Student Dragon Boat Invitational Race was held at the Fengxian Campus of East China University of Science and Technology. Jointly organized by the China Scholarship Council, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and the International Student Education Research Committee of the Shanghai Education Association for International Exchange, the event brought together international students from universities across Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region. Representing Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the international student team trained diligently and competed with determination, demonstrating excellent teamwork and youthful energy throughout the race.
Amid the powerful drumbeats and splashing oars, teams raced forward with remarkable coordination and perseverance. Guided by the rhythm of the drummer, participants paddled in unison and gave their utmost effort until the finish line. Cheers and encouragement from spectators echoed along the riverside, creating a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. Through every stroke and every shout of encouragement, SJTU School of Medicine’s international students not only experienced the excitement of dragon boat racing, but also gained a deeper appreciation of teamwork, unity, and collective effort.
Following the event, many students shared that the race was not only an exciting sporting competition but also a memorable cultural experience. By participating in this traditional Chinese sport firsthand, they developed a deeper understanding of the spirit of solidarity, perseverance, and cooperation embodied in Chinese culture, while also strengthening friendships and exchanges with international students from other universities.
