On January 20th, Professor Wang Meixian, a renowned expert in pediatric neurology and the founder of the Department of Pediatric Neurology at Xinhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, celebrated his 100th birthday.

On that morning, CAI Wei, former vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Peasants and Labor Party and former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal*** Institute of Pediatric Medicine; Shao Xinhua, Director of Hospital Management Department at Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine; Sun Kun, President of Xinhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine; Zhao Libin, Deputy Secretary Party Committee; Zheng Junhua, Party Secretary Ji Qingying from Affiliated Renji Hospital; Wang Zheng Vice President from Affiliated Renji Hospital; Chen Yiqi Full-time Vice President from Department Pediatrics Medical School ; Jiang Yuwu Director Pediatrics Pediatric Epilepsy Center Peking University First Hospital along with representatives from Mr. Wang's students and family members gathered to congratulate this esteemed "famous doctor" in pediatric neurology.

Comrade Shen Xiaoming, secretary for Hunan Provincial Party Committee and a well-known expert in pediatrics in China as well as an old leader at Xinhua Hospital has always been concerned about the health conditionof these esteemed experts. Although he was unable to attend due to physical limitations,his blessings were specially conveyed through Dean Sun Kun on behalfof Mr.Wang.

Mr. Wang Meixian, the former director of the Department of Neurology and Pediatrics at Shanghai Second Medical College, as well as the director of Pediatric Internal Medicine at Shanghai Second Medical University, established the Department of Pediatric Neurology at Xinhua Hospital in the 1970s. The seeds planted by Wang Meixian over 50 years ago have now blossomed into a thriving field. In 1958, Shanghai Xinhua Hospital was founded to cater to the healthcare needs of residents in northeast Shanghai. Mr. Wang Meixian was among the dedicated medical experts who wholeheartedly served at Xinhua Hospital with great passion for their careers. Initially specializing in adult neurology, she witnessed an increasing number of children with neurological disorders seeking treatment at Xinhua Hospital, prompting its decision to establish a pediatric neurology specialty department. It was during this time that Mr. Wang took on the responsibility of establishing this new discipline and embarked on her lifelong journey of developing a professional field and training medical professionals accordingly. Thanks to Mr.Wang's efforts, not only has Xinhua Hospital made significant advancements in diagnosing and treating pediatric neurological diseases but it has also become a nurturing ground for future talents in this specialized area.
